Illustrator Tutorials for beginners

Video 1

This video was very fast pace but was easy to follow along with and gave a clear and concise overview of the use for each tool in the Illustrator sidebar. This video shows how to use the most common tools and functions to create vector art. Due to how simplistic this video was none of the tools seemed particularly difficult to use. Rather a challenge will probably present itself in remembering what each tool is designated for. the pen tool seems like the most useful and fun tool to use because it allows you to create custom shapes that are easily manipulated. I also appreciated the narrator mentioning the keyboard shortcuts to many tools including the direct selection tool which allows you to manipulate any specific point of a shape.

Video 2

This video was strictly focused on how to use the Pen tool on Illustrator. The narrator was very detailed and used real examples of her work to show how the tool can be used for designing and editing. She elaborated on how the direct selection tool can allow for the manipulation of many control points that from my experience probably isn't possible in Dreamweaver. Also demonstrated how to change the endings or corners of shapes. For example, making a square have rounded points. I think the pen tool is going to be both the most used tool for myself as well as the one I struggle with most because it has so many different functions accompanied by even more shortcuts. This video showed me that Illustrator performs a lot of the same functions as Dreamweaver but at a more precise level because you can directly alter components rather than coordinate points.

Video 3

This video was extremely detailed in the technical terms of using Illustrator. The first thing I learned was that images are rendered files made up of pixels that lose quality and resolution when edited and resized. While vectors are graphic elements not rendered yet and can be edited without losing quality and maximum flexibility. I learned that some tools have settings that can be changed by double-clicking. Again this video introduced more shortcuts and good terminology for specific elements on Illustrator such as handles. This also showed the versatility of the pen tool which I think will be the most utilized for my work.
